The danger of a Bluetooth
headset is that the majority leave you with the Alan partridge look, that
casual boom microphone with a large lump of plastic stuck in your ear, plus
on the functionality side you barely have room for any buttons except a main
answer or end call switch, instead they rely on voice activation.
The HBH-200 is an in ear headphone
similar to those shipped with personal stereos the cable also contains the
microphone with a good background sound compression system.
The control unit is a small silver
section with a backlit LCD screen, this contains the Bluetooth electronics
and also allows more functions of you phone to be accessed than the standard
headsets. As well as answering calls the unit can be synchronised with
compatible phones to download the address book, this enables you to search
contacts on the control unit and for caller display to function.
Battery life is a claimed 70hrs and a
talk time of 3.5hrs, it is easier to charge than some of the headsets and
can be attached to your clothing with a clip or on a lanyard. A key feature
ensures compatibility as it can work with both the "headset" profile and
also the "Hands free" one more commonly used with car kits. This seems to
get round many of the issues with Ericsson kit working with Nokia or other
phones the hands free profile is far more rich allowing the caller lists and
caller ID aspects.
The device can be criticised as being a
bit low on volume in noisy environments so its not all good news, but if you
can use this device in Hands free mode its hard to beat.
