Altec Inmotion Ipod Speakers

Altec Inmotion Ipod SpeakersAfter a busy weekend of gadgets its sometime nice to go back to work and sit in front of a computer (not) but then as if by magic a gadget appears and that's just what happened to LP when a colleague showed him his latest buy, a set of Altec Inmotion Ipod Speakers.

LP had seen these a while back and been quite impressed but in old age it had slipped his mind and he failed to share this device with all of you (shame on him) so time to put that right and show you why every self respecting Ipod owner should have these.

The Altec inmotion Ipod speakers utilise a class D amplifier to provide a battery (or mains) output for your Ipod, at first sight you look at the neodymium drivers and think that's going to sound poor and very quiet, but on firing up the Altec's and attaching your beloved Ipod the sound comes as quite a surprise.

The 4 watt 8 Ohms speakers deliver a sound much bigger than their footprint, lets not mislead you this is not your stereo system or for that matter a good quality portable HiFi but compared to many powered walkman speaker systems these are very good. Perhaps the most eyebrow raising thing is the amount of Bass produced this is in part due to MaxxBass technology which manages to produce the deeper more resonating bass notes despite the lack of a subwoofer.

Altec Inmotion MP3 SpeakersPortability is the name of the game and the Altec Inmotion package folds flat to measure just 204 x 138 x 30mm, once unfolded you can either run off the batteries or via the supplied mains adaptor its simple to just slot your Ipod into the Inmotion much like you slide your Ipod into its dock. Altec are now shipping an Ipod Mini adaptor free of charge so that those of us lucky enough to get one of the first Ipod Mini's can use this system.

Replay time on batteries is a claimed 24hrs (we were unable to test this) but as your Ipod will only last for 8 without a recharge its safe to say your Ipod will need fresh power long before the Inmotion does. There is a auxiliary jack to attach other non Ipod devices to the speakers and also a headphone socket?? but quite why you would plug your Ipod into this and then the headphones into the Inmotion is a bit beyond us.

This is one of those gadgets that ooze style while fulfilling a very basic need and it does its job remarkably well, retailing at around £100 these seem well priced for anyone who is taking an Ipod away on holiday or somewhere without access to a stereo system.
