Its not often
that LP spies a gadget sitting in someone's office that he has no
idea what it does, but this was the case with the Belkin Speedpad,
in fact even when we found an excuse to wander over to the guys desk
to get a closer look we were still puzzled. For the Belkin
Speedpad is a strange looking thing, it allows for control of a mini
keypad, 8 way pad, scroll wheel and a trigger all with your left
hand. Its primarily a gaming control and a quick blast on the chaps
PC on Half Life proved just what it can do with the ability to
select weapons and control gaming action very quickly.
But the 56 programmable functions can be used for anything not
just gaming and this is how this chap had justified his company
getting him one (lucky eh!) he was controlling some custom software
for inputting customer data and had assigned the common keyboard
shortcuts to the device. Chatting to him he said that the Belkin
Speedpad had helped greatly with the speed of his work plus it was
more comfortable to use for long periods, plus of course during his
"own time" it was excellent for unreal tournament sessions on the
corporate network.
Our brief play proved its robust enough with LP's energetic game
play and we like the idea of being able to buy a games controller on
expenses, so its a punch in the air with our now redundant right
hand for the Belkin speedpad which retails at just £21, bargain.
