It
seems that the manufacturers of Bluetooth headsets have woken up to
the needs of today's drivers and started to improve talk and standby
times on their products, in fact its rare for us to test a new
headset that feature under 4 hours talk time.
This is in comparison to the early headsets like the Nokia HD-W2
which will last just 2 hours on a full charge. This week Lordpercy
got to try the Bluetrek G2 headset , this Bluetooth 1.1 headset
boasts an 8 hour talk time and 400 hrs standby from a 1.5 hour
charge.
Opening the jewel like packaging reveals the rather svelte Bluetrek
G2 unit which tips the scales at a meagre 12 grams, the first charge
takes 8 hours and subsequent charges take 1.5 hours, the charger has
an easier connection than the Sony Ericsson headsets as it has more
of a traditional jack adaptor rather than adopting a phone
manufacturers standard.
The Bluetrek has just 3 buttons one for earpiece volume up and
one for down and then the multifunction button which answers calls
and also powers the unit up, pairing the G2 is simple by holding the
multifunction button for 7 seconds the led flashes blue / red and
the device is visible to your phone for you to enter a PIN number
which is set as 0000.
Then you are up and running and can wear the very lightweight
unit on either ear, perhaps the unit is a little too lightweight and
there is the possibility that it may depart your ear for the floor
as the ear loop is a loose fit. However audio quality is good as is
the overall volume and its certainly easy to use with that big
single button offering a big target to aim for when you are driving.
The Bluetrek G2 headset is great value for money too at just £40,
you get a lot of Bluetooth headset per pound and it seems well
built and there are no know reliability issues either, of course
Bluetrek isn't a household name in mobile technology but their
mobile peripherals seem to offer a good combination of style and
function.
