Value for money is often overshadowed in the world of gadgets by
sleek cases and sexy designs, we are often guilty of choosing a more
expensive gadget for its looks and appeal rather than pure band per
buck! But this week we've been testing the Creative Muvo TX FM, this
little MP3 player boasts at 512mb memory and a host of other
features for the very reasonable prices of £130.the 512mb flash
memory is good for 8 hours of MP3 at 128kbits plus it can also
replay WMA which extends the storage further, getting MP3 files onto
the Muvo TX FM is simple with a USB 2.0 connection and a drag and
drop interface, no need to for specialist software as the device
appears as a windows drive.
The creative Muvo TX fm is pretty simple to drive too the small
LCD screen gives basic track info and the side mounted buttons make
for easy navigation and playback, audio quality is good if not
excellent with only a little background hiss from the rather cheap
headphones.
The Muvo TX FM gets its name from the inbuilt FM tuner which
works remarkably well, we loved the ability to record direct from
the radio and then listen to the recordings as MP3 later or extract
them from the Muvo, there is also the ability to record voice via
little inbuilt microphone at a low bit rate.
Battery life is good at 15 hours from a AAA battery although we
managed to get less but this maybe due to a little over zealous use
of the backlit blue display. There are a few nice touches too, like
the reversible LCD screen which enables left and right-handed
operations and the inclusion of a both a belt clip and an armband
which is very handy for those of you who will use the skip free
playback at the gym.
You can of course load the creative Muvo FM with things other
than MP3 or WMA files, using it as a USB storage device is very
practical with it's speedy USB 2.0 connection, although we did find
its width made it a bit tricky to get into tight USB ports commonly
found on the back of a PC.
Overall the creative Muvo TX FM is a tidy little MP3 player, its
not perfect and style wise its a bit chubby and lacks the sheer
presence of an MPIO or even and Ipod but for £130 it's good value
for money and a sound purchase.
