The
Gaggia Syncrony Digital machine is a built like a Volvo, they’re
boxy but they’re good. This is a reliable machine for the aspiring
coffee connoisseur. Gaggia’s first super automatic machine was the
Automatica and the Syncrony Digital is the replacement for that. It
is definitely a large piece of kitchen kit at 34cm x 38cm x 32cm and
at just under £600 you are getting a lot of machine for your money.
Looks wise it is
quite appealing to the eye with curved rounded edges, colourful
concise buttons, smart satin steel finish off set with pearlised
black accessories, (this was the first machine to diversify away
from the traditional black or white finish.) It has a removable
stainless steel drip tray and is totally wipe clean. There is no
doubting it’s a smart looking machine but with the quality of the
other digitals Gaggia are famous for does it live up to its brand
name?
The first thing you
come across with this ‘Bean to Cup’ machine is that the Gaggia
Syncrony Digital has fully automatic functions with a LCD
programmable control panel, which we found simple and easy to
follow, you can even program how different people take there coffee
and at the press of a button create their desired tipple. The
initial selection coffee type / size and programming the timing
function (that on some machines can be time consuming,) couldn’t be
any quicker to use.
The main feature on
this machine that differs from others is its huge 2.4ltr water tank
you’re talking approximately twenty cups, here at Lordpercy.com we
haven’t come across a larger water tank as yet. Also the coffee
quantity can be adjusted and preset for future use. Other bonus
features are: on-board cup warmer with built in heating element
(enables you to pre-warm your cups so that your coffee stays hotter
for longer) water hardness adjustment control and standard or
automatic descaling function. It also has two boilers… yes two, one
for the coffee and one for the steam, they both work independently
meaning if you don’t want to froth milk you don’t lose any water
capacity to frothing function also it only takes two minutes to heat
up!
The milk frother on
Gaggia Syncrony Digital is again fairly simple to use, if you have
mastered the art of producing froth on other machines then you wont
have any problems with this one. It comes with a small development
that is more of a safety function ensuring that the splash back form
the frother is reduced stopping to possibility of burns. The coffee
filter also has a pre-infusion function allowing the coffee grinds
to be pre-soaked allowing total aroma release, imagine the smell of
freshly brewed coffee first thing in the morning drifting through
your open plan office.
There are several
versions of the Gaggia Syncrony Digital available now including the
Compact version which the biggest difference is the smaller water
tank capacity and a single boiler which weighs in at much less that
the 8.25kg of its big brother.
To be honest there
isn’t any groundbreaking technology with the Gaggia Syncrony Digital
but it combines all the technological advancements in coffee over
the last twenty years into one fast and easy to use machine. It did
exceed our expectations here in the LP.com office and in fact I can
see this machine being used in our situation all over the country,
it’s just perfect for the office environment even the most
non-technological of admin assistants (who can’t even operate the
photo copier) would be able to use it without any trouble.
