The iRiver iFP-390T may have
long and complicated name but it is quite simply a compact and feature
packed MP3 player, supporting both MP3, ASF and WMA (but not WAV) playback
the 256mb of internal storage is good for about 8 hours of music and the
space can also be used for other storage as the iRiver
doubles up a USB mass storage device.
Music can be synchronised from your PC via USB or
directly recorded without needing a PC from either the players own inbuilt
FM radio or microphone at bit rates from 8kbps to 320kbps, simply hold the
record button to pop up a graphical menu with your options. Tests in the
short time we had the 390-T the line recordings we made direct to MP3 were
of a very high quality and the supplied Sennheiser ear buds are a good
quality partner for the iRiver.
A killer feature of the iRiver iFP-390T is its battery
life, more capacious than an elephants scrotum this baby can playback for
24hrs on just one AA battery.
The curvy sleek exterior of the 390T commands
attention. It has a three-button one-joystick- design, which, along with a
cool graphical user interface, makes navigating the plethora of features fun
and yet satisfying at the same time. The design is a result of iRivers
collaboration with iNNO design who seem to know what the gadgeteer likes his
gadgets to look and feel like, the iRiver is as much a sensory experience as
the Ipod and that’s quite an accolade. As is common now
iRiver have gone for a backlit blue display which looks great and works well
apart from trying to read small text which is only a problem with the
seconds on track countdowns.
The iRiver Manager software supplied is ok but as the
drive appears as a logical volume when connected you can simply drag and drop
MP3 files direct to the device, there is a larger 512mb
device available but for our money the 256mb version is exceptional value
for a flash MP3 player.
