Headsets have come a long way since we first reviewed an early Sony
Ericsson device, talk times have got longer and standby times are up
there with the mobile phones themselves, so when we get to hear of a
new unit we can sort of guess what it will have, but Jabra have gone
one step further.
For this very stylish headset features the latest in DSP (digital
signal processing) technology which is designed to filter out
background noise to give the clearest speech possible, Jabra's BT800
is especially good at dealing with wind noise and road rumble the 2
most likely causes of bad phone calls. The unit also has an
automatic volume system adjusting the earpiece level to compensate
for noisy environments, plus for those tricky moment it has a
fingertip mute facility.
Weighing just over 25 grams the Jabra BT800 fits nicely on the
ear despite it's most modern and one could argue uncomfortable
looks, the unit has a backlit blue display for showing caller ID
numbers, quite how you are expected to use this we have yet to work
out. The Menu system is accessed via a jog wheel and amongst the
more mundane features it can be used to select one of the pre loaded
ring tones or even switch to vibrate mode.
In terms of outright performance the BT800 packs 6 hours of talk
time and 200hrs on standby between charges, based around the newer
Bluetooth 1.2 standard it promises much clearer call quality with
less interference issues due to improved frequency hopping
technology. Charging via a standard UK mains charger can refill a
flat battery in about 3 hours and sadly the only thing missing is a
recharge from USB option which is being introduced on other headsets
within the Jabra range.
The Jabra BT800 is on sale now and it
looks like a strong contender for the early adopter vote and then
into the mass market.
