A
growing number of mobile phones have inbuilt speakerphone functions
but they are always a bit weak and feeble, Jabra have discovered
this and produced a Bluetooth speakerphone the SP100.The Jabra
SP100 Speakerphone is in essence very similar to a conference phone
that you may have used at work, it features a noise cancelling
microphone and a high quality speaker which delivers clear speech at
a very healthy level. Clad in a back and silver case measuring 125
by 73 by 34mm and weighing 170g the oval shaped SP100 can hook onto
a cars dashboard and is just at home on a desk as a traditional
conference unit.
The microphone is mounted on a shapely directional arm which can
be placed in the best location to pick up speech, the base of the
unit houses a multifunction button which is used to answer and end
calls, plus there is a separate power / volume and mute control.
Pairing the Jabra SP100 is easy and once the relationship is
created calls may be made with the phone up to 10 meters away from
the Sp100 unit, we tested calls with a number of different phones
all with good results, even over a long call typical of a business
conversation. The audio quality of the Sp100 is far superior to the
inbuilt speakerphone on our test Motorola V600, even when we sat a
fair distance from the microphone the SP100 allowed the other end of
the call to clearly hear us without hiss or digital break-up.
The
speaker was good, loud and clear for the most part and only
occasionally a bit of muffled or less clear sound was evident during
a 1 hour call. In the car the audio was still clear and despite some
road noise our callers claimed that the quality was still good an
easily comparable with a top end Bluetooth or cabled headset.
The batteries are also up to the job in hand with 12 hours talk
time and a possible 20 days standby time from a single charge of the
2 x 1.2 volt
AA nickel metal hydride (NiMH) units, plus Jabra have thought
to provide both an AC adaptor and a car charger as part of the
package. Also within the box are a couple of car mounting systems
namely a suction mount for windscreens and a sun visor clip both of
these give a fairly secure hold on what is a weighty object.
Overall a nice bit of kit, we're not entirely sure of the benefit
of the Jabra SP 100 Speakerphone in the car as either a car kit of
headphone would seem more logical, but for a good quality conference
speaker for your mobile the £60 SP100 looks like good value.
