Logic3 iStation

Logic3 iStation for IpodWhere we look we see Ipods, Ipods in the office, Ipods on the Tube even Ipods attached to kids who look like they'd do better spending the cash on clothes and haircuts (there's a lot to be said for nation service, Joke!) but an Ipod is a non social device, unless you use one of the few Ipod speaker combo devices.

The latest one to arrive is the Logic3 iStation, we've had the Inmotion ones on test and the Tivoli IPal but these are top end devices costing north of £100 but the Logic3 IStation is a much more modest £50. The unit comprises of 2 3 watt stereo speakers and a 5w subwoofer with a built in Ipod dock, it is powered be either 4 AA batteries or the supplied mains adaptor.

The front of the iStation has just 4 buttons to control the power , volume and a rather tacky 3D option which adds some kind of spacialisation effect to make stereo sound wider, well it doesn't work on our £750 TV and it sure doesn't work here it just distorts the audio badly.

With our 3G Ipod safely in the dock it was time to try out the audio capabilities of the iStation and with any device of this size you worry about the ability of it to fill the room and unlike the IPal the Logic3 unit does struggle, it would be fine for a bedroom or kitchen but a living room is a bit too much for the 3 watt speakers. Don't get us wrong the audio quality was quite good, the subwoofer giving it an amount of guts beyond its size and rather plastic like construction, however push the limits and distortion is not far away, plus if you crank up the Ipod output as well you can almost get the thing to rattle.

Weirdly that doesn't leave us to say rude things about the iStation, instead we must say for £50 and used at a moderate volume its really quite good, you can't run a party with it or expect it to replace your HiFi but for a device to take on holiday or just for a location where you want to hear your Ipod out loud its really rather good.

A word of warning, should you go ahead and get a set of Logic3 iStation then be careful of the speaker units, they could do with some sort of grill as we nearly speared them twice which would have put pay to any kind of sound!

Overall these are good value for money, sure they won't upset the neighbours but they have a real quality sound and work well with the Apple Ipod, just don't expect them to sound bigger than they are.
