Moshi iPouch

Moshi iPouch
In the past few years, the plethora of iPod accessories has risen almost exponentially, with seemingly a never-ending rollout of much the same, “me too”, versions of carry cases. One company that thought differently (oh how droll, I know) was Aevoe, creators/designers of the Moshi iPouch (and mini iPouch).

The principle difference between what Aevoe have brought to market and what most others have, is that the Moshi iPouch is not a rigid structure made from silicon, leather and cardboard, or plastic. Rather they decided to market a soft fabric, drawstring bag, with a front pocket to house the earphones.

When I first learned about this type of ‘case’ for the iPod, I thought they were plain barking mad – surely an iPod/MP3 player has to be housed in a stiffer material, to provide protection from bumps and scrapes? That’s partially true, especially for the knocks and bangs an iPod/MP3 player will likely sustain in its lifetime, but less so, for the scrapes.

Well, after having used the provided case with my original 40 GB iPod Photo, I can attest that Apple didn’t do a very good job of testing it before signing off on it – the  thing scratched the display area with its not-so numerous insertions and removals, before I noticed what it had done. Oh how I wish I had the iPouch since day one!

You see, the Moshi iPouch is a material unlike most other microfibre materials – it is a Terahedron material (made of micron-sized porous interlocking fibers), with no chemical treatment, and in tests, showed a noticeable reduction in abrasiveness. The regular iPouch comes in 3 colours – Zen black, Milky white, and Sahara beige colour. The mini iPouch is available in Zen black, Milky white, Baby blue, Lavender pink, Summer olive, and Sahara beige.

Moshi iPouch ReviewI’ve been using the iPouch for a while now, and it hasn’t added any more scratches to the iPod, so it seems to live up to its claims. It has also proven to a welcome relief to have the front pocket to store the earphones in, and slips in and out of my shirt pocket with considerably more ease than the silicon one I had been using since putting the Apple provided one back in the box from whence it came! Can you tell it gets to me, still?

So, unless you absolutely must need a bombproof case – read as, are extremely careless and through-other – for your iPod, then I can whole-heartedly recommend the Moshi iPouch.

Its design will let you remove any dust or fingerprints from the iPod/MP3 player, and could even find employment as a soft housing for your digital camera. I believe they are working on DC specific Pouch, but until that’s available, the iPouch will happily fill the role, if your camera fits of course. Otherwise, it’ll have to act as a cleaning cloth for the lens and LCD display.

Well done Aevoe – I thought you were daft to market the Moshi iPouch as is, but you’ve shown that I was prejudiced, and not thinking differently. Not all iPod cases need be of similar design and form!

If you should decide to purchase one of the iPouches, then, in lieu of a UK distributor/dealer network (at this time), trot along to https://www.aevoe.com/moshi/shop.htm and grab the size and colour you need. You’ll be pleased you did.
