Motorola MPX Smartphone

Smartphones can sadly be a contradiction in terms, small screens, software  bugs (oh no my phones crashed), pathetic cameras with webcam resolution and having to learn a "special" language just to use some of them (graffiti) but the few phones that really deliver are changing the face of mobile technology, Motorola are about to start the next phase in this shake up with the MPX smartphone .

The Motorola MPX smartphone has addressed the short comings of the MPx200 which shocked the mobile community with its use of the Microsoft mobile operating system and delivering probably the best user interface on the market today but in true Motorola style they stuffed it by forgetting to put Bluetooth or a camera on then phone. The MPX smartphone will we are promised see this sorted, the smartphone will support both Bluetooth 1.0 and 1.1 hands free and headset profiles and the camera is not just a webcam reject but a full featured camera expected to be 1.3 mega pixels.

AT the recent 3 GSM world conference Motorola gave us more details on the phone they hope will give them a boost in the high end or luxury phone sector, aimed at those on the move who want to stay connected the phone supports Tri band, GPRS, Bluetooth IrDA and Wifi so no excuses for missing that email. Weighing an estimated 150 grams the clamshell design sports a 2.8 inch 16 bit colour display with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels making it one of the best on the market, the shell can open on a unique hinge design either in traditional clamshell way or as a hinged book style which is easier to use for smartphone operations.

Working with the Motorola MPX smartphone is easy too with active sync from Microsoft and Air sync to perform the same operations on the various wireless connections supported, data input is via the touch screen with stylus and a qwerty thumb keyboard and numeric pad. Unlike many other so called smartphone the MPX can support to one gigabyte of external memory via and SD/MMC slot which should also allow users to connect peripherals to the MPX.

From the glimpse we have got and the published specs the Motorola MPX Smartphone promises to deliver something very special combining all the features today's high end users want along with the Microsoft mobile operating system, Motorola promise delivery in the second half of 2004 and we'll bring you a full review as soon as it arrives in the UK.
