MuVo2 mini MP3 player

MuVo2 mini MP3 playerThe Muvo 2 mini mp3 player is a direct attack / response to the mini Ipod announced by apple at the Vegas electronics show at the start of the year, MP3 is really taking the world by storm and while the larger 20gb+ models are the mainstream product their size (limited by the 1 inch hard drives they use) is becoming an issue to those who want music on the move without the bulk.

The obvious trade off is capacity like the mini pod the MuVo2 has a 4gb hard drive which will be good for 2000 tracks @ 64kbps or 1000 at 128kbps which is still a good library but not really enough to hold your entire collection, but that's about where the tradeoffs end the diminutive MuVo2 has all the features of the Creative Nomad range and for early adopters this is the best MP3 gadgets to be seen with. The LCD screen shows track info on its two line backlit interface and the artist and other info scrolls on the lower of the two lines, navigation of tracks is ok but this is quite a small screen considering there was space on the unit for a bigger one.

Alongside the LCD is a multifunction button which allows for the usual play / pause / skip controls plus is your main navigation tool and controls volume during track playback, being a minimal player we were pleased that the buttons aren't too small unlike many mobile phones we get to review, in fact despite the slightly limiting screen you soon get very used to the MuVo2's controls.

MuVo2 MP3 playerThe top edge of the player holds the interface points for charging the 14hr lithium hour battery, the USB 2.0 connection for interfacing to your PC and the headphone / remote socket great news here is that the drive of the MuVo is seen as a generic hard disk by windows XP so no need for creatives software or anyone else's for that matter, you can just drag and drop MP3 files directly from your PC onto the mapped drive that is you MuVo2. The USB 2.0 connection can also be used to charge your player while transferring files removing the need to take the supplied AC adaptor with you while away from home.

Sound quality is good the signal to noise ratio of 98db is plenty for the compressed MP3 format and the MuVo2 has good bass reproduction and remarkable clarity of vocals for such a miniature unit, our favourite test is to connect MP3 players to pucker HiFi setups and the MuVo performed very well with enough line out capability to drive the amplifier input stage. The supplied headphones aren't much to write home about and its makes us wonder why they do this as it gives a poor impression of the overall package, but when we hooked creative's little baby up to a good pair of Sennheiser's the ability of the MuVo shone through, our advice is to buy a good set of headphones at the same time as your MuVo purchase either Shure's or Sennheiser's.

We really like the MuV02, creative have excelled themselves in providing what Apple have promised from a mini MP3 player this unit is stylish in the extreme and its sleek yet function design will appeal to all, the downside is price at present the MuVo2 costs as much as a 20gb Ipod that's quite a price to pay to be the first but then again the MuVo2 is a great mini Mp3 player so......we'd buy one!
