It
is rare to find a gadget that leaves LP speechless but the start of
this week brought just such a moment, setting eyes on a Nokia RX-4
Medallion is quite a shock as it's not what you expect it to be.
Is it a new rotary engine mobile phone? Is a phone that you wear in
an eighties medallion man fashion? well no in fact it's a decorative
digital timepiece with customisable images! The RX4 is based around
a 96 x 96 pixel 4096 colour screen that hangs on a cord around your
neck, the screen can display an image beamed via infrared from a
compatible Nokia's phone, the Medallion can store 8 images which you
can choose from to match your mood.
The steel cased RX-4 is not that heavy at 36 grams and the
battery will last for up to 15 hours before recharging form a
standard Nokia's mobile charger, the medallion can handle JPEG
images of up to 800k and had approx 2mb of SRam on which to store
them.
The 47 mm x 32 mm
x 14.8 mm digital trinket is supposedly an image statement and a way
of showing your innermost thoughts along with other "marketing
phrases" in fact it's really a glorified clock as a touch of the
screen reveals the time presuming you can swing the pendant so you
can see it while round your neck.
Perhaps the biggest statement is that you
have £149.99 to spend on possibly the least functional gadget we've
seen this year, sure it looks nice and would be quite a novel thing
to wear, once! So if you do like the idea of having a low resolution
picture of your dog on a digital device that needs charging every
half day hanging round your neck step up and press the Amazon button
below. Otherwise welcome back to the real world and continue to
