For
some reason I am reminded of the story about the man who had a dream
that he has eaten a large marshmallow and woke up to find his
pillows missing.
With the new Pure Chronos DAB Radio the man would have dreamed of
a Quality Street Green Triangle and woke up to find his radio
missing as the Pure Chronos DAB Radio looks like a giant chocolate
triangle in silver!
Don't get me wrong, it looks good. It looks like a radio that
belongs in your bedroom. Unlike most other Digital Radios designed
as a bedroom alarm clock it's not so big you need a new bedside
table to fit it on. My first
impression was a good looking radio alarm clock that I would like to
have on my bedside table.
On switching it on the radio will set the time and set-up all the
stations with ease, I really like the time being set by the radio so
you know the alarm is correct! I was a little disappointed with the
sound quality
compared to other digital radios. It lacks the warmth in the sound,
however compared to the standard bedside FM radio this is a much
better quality sound. Plus you get all the benefits of DAB with text
information like news headlines or sports results, or maybe just the
current track that is playing.
The instruction manual remains unopened in the box as the functions
are obvious and easy to set-up. Rather than just 4 buttons and
trying to workout the combination you need to press each function
has a separate button to make it easy.
It has the best range of features I have seen on a bedside radio,
you can set the alarm to only work during the week and leave you
alone at the weekend so you can set-up the alarm and just leave it
alone forever, or you can set-up an alarm for just one day or
everyday the same. The 4 independent alarms allow you to switch your
wake up patterns without having to constantly reprogrammed the
Chronos, so ideal for shift workers.
If you like to have the radio on to fall asleep to you can set the
snooze feature to almost any duration you like. If the bright light
of the front is annoying you then with one click it can be softened.
In summary If you have an FM radio alarm clock and would have the
choice that digital radio brings for your bedroom radio alarm clock
then this is a good buy. The Pure Chronos DAB Radio is small
and looks like a radio alarm clock with all the great features of
digital radio. On sale for around £80 this may be the Rolls Royce of
bedside radios but with the range of radio stations available and
the modern styling its well worth the money.
