Pure Oasis DAB

Pure Oasis DABIt's a well guarded secret but the reason LP looks so happy and chirpy first thing in the morning is his daily dose of music while he showers. However this can be dangerous for the line of radios that he's destroyed inside the hostile environment that is Lordpercy's bathroom.

The latest to take on the wilds of London's most dangerous power shower is the Pure Oasis DAB radio, now Pure have worked wonders with pervious radios but they haven't exactly been rugged, certainly not good enough to survive a wet room! Pure would have us believe that this has all changed with the Oasis DAB unit, which certainly looks rugged.

Measuring 155 x 230 x 140mm and clad in a tough silver plastic Pure have managed to provide a DAB unit that can really go anywhere, with its rubberised aerial fitted it looks like some military radio rather than the latest in consumer technology. But under it's hardened exterior lies the same technology that has put Pure at the forefront of DAB devices.

The Oasis has full band III reception capability and this means that it can work with all UK DAB broadcasts both commercial and from the BBC, control is via a menu displayer on the 2 X 16 character LCD screen and there are 4 preset buttons and a big chunky power button (which also flashes when the device is charging). Sound comes from a custom designed 4" long throw weatherproof driver promising the warm and rich sound we've become accustomed to from Pure Digitals DAB radios.

This model apart from being rugged with it's rubber bumpers, also boasts a level of "weatherproofing" which means it should be good for LP's shower, the driver unit itself isn't afraid of a splash or two and all the external connectors on the rear are covered by a rubber guard keeping out gunk and grime. Most DAB sets are limited to being plugged to a main outlet and the Oasis does ship with a mains adaptor, but it also has "charge Pak" which gives up to 15 hours before needing a top up providing truly portable DAB listening.

Another plus point for the Oasis is it's line input which means that you can hook up your iPod or other MP3 player to make the most of the Pure' speaker when out and about, like many other Pure radios the Oasis has a USB socket meaning that future firmware upgrade can be downloaded. Sadly there is no record facility and the Sky+ style features have not made it to this go anywhere baby.

For DAB on the move in al weathers or even just in your bathroom it looks like Pure have done it again with the £119 Oasis due on sale at the end of this month.
