Stripy iPod Speakers

Stripy iPod SpeakersA company called Music Studio has come up with a super trendy set of Ipod or MP3 player speakers known as Stripy, they are the very essence of urban chic and look like no other units we've seen when plugged into an Ipod.

The Stripy house provides all the power and control you need and in normal language that means is the amplifier and also contains the volume and tone controls. producing 9 watts of musical output in total and 4.5 watts RMS per channel these aren't just pretty looking they pack a fair old punch for their size too, easily outdoing some of the weaker units we tried over the past 12 months.

Set-up is simple enough, each of the stripy speakers has its cable wound round the bass of the unit and this plugs directly to the stripy house, each speaker can be rotated and angled through 180 degrees for the best combination of sound and style. Power is provided by a DC adaptor which also plugs to the main unit and then another lead runs to a 3.5mm jack making it highly compatible with any form of audio device including the Apple iPod.

Operation of the Stripy speakers is quite unique, the stripy house (yes that is its name) has only one big button which glows a pinky white when the unit is switched on, dialling it left lowers volume and right increases volume. A press turns the light to a blue colour which indicates bass adjustment and the rotation of the button adjusts bass level, press again and the button glows green for treble adjustment, leaving the unit alone for a while returns the light to the pinky white and normal mode.

Stripy MP3 SpeakersWe had hours of fun playing with the very tactile Stripy speakers and twisting them into all sorts of positions, the whole set-up looks very cool in sleek silver and that hint of colour from the glowing stripy house. Perhaps the only negative comment is the jumble of cables that you end of with running around between the units, we notice how all the press host seem to hide this rats nest of audio and power cables.

Overall the Stripy speakers put in a passable audio performance, they are not quite room fillers, but Music Studio have plans to add a subwoofer which may see to that, for the time being these are a funky and stylish set of iPod speakers that would look at home with the trendiest MP3 player or laptop. We just can't wait for them to go on sale in the UK.
