We've
already come clean about our backing for the Zen Micro in its fight
against the Ipod Mini and before Apple could answer back Creative
have upped the ante with the Zen Micro Photo. The Micro Photo is a
6gb hard drive device which is the same small and compact footprint
of the MP3 playing Zen micro but the Zen Micro Photo as its name
suggests has an extra weapon. Imagine a sharp colour rich screen
embedded in the face of your Zen Micro and you will get some idea of
the 260 thousand-colour OLED display with
130x130 pixel resolution screen, the OLED technology impressed all
who saw it at the recent CES show in Las Vegas, so much so that the
device won the "audio to go" category.
The same intuitive control interface is used as the Zen Micro
with the large chunky buttons and centre slider for track scrolling
and selection, of course the colour screen means a better user
experience even in playing MP3 / WMA tracks. The increased 6gb disk
means a possible 3000 tracks can be hoarded on the little device and
this could be used to hold 7,500 Jpeg images, it wasn't easy to get
a preview of creative little baby at CES but from first looks the
photo browsing seems to follow the same simple yet effective menu
system.
The
Zen Micro Photo retains all of the good features of the MP3 only
device, like the 12 hour battery life, FM radio and the USB 2.0
interface to allow for uploading of images and tracks to the device,
as the micro mounts as a USB drive it can also act as a 6gb
removable drive.
In terms of style the Zen Micro continues to make the Ipod Mini
look decidedly cold and lifeless, available in 10 vibrant colours
the photo edition looks as stunning and even more impressive with
the 1.5" OLED screen glowing brightly from the front. Quite why you
would choose to lug the bulk of an Ipod photo around compared to
this is beyond us.
Expected to retail at around the £199 mark the arrival of the Zen
Micro photo in early Summer 2005 looks set to be one of those "must
pre order" items, we hope to get a full review here at Lordpercy.com
prior to the UK release date..
