The
Zoom 4300 Bluetooth Modem is not the quickest of wireless solutions
but if you have an older laptop that is Bluetooth enabled and not
Wifi or you just don't need the bandwidth of broadband then this is
a sensible solution. It supports connection speeds of up to 723kbps
but the V90 modem will support the standard 56k dial up which is
then shared via the Bluetooth connection.
After blowing the first one up after only using
it for about 40 minutes, I was to say a little disappointed but the
replacement has been fine. It's small and compact so I can chuck it
in my laptop bag if working away from home and I'm not confined to
one room, the range is about 100 meters (depending on how many walls
it needs to go through) as its a class 1 Bluetooth device.
Recently I was on a work trip and I had the
modem plugged in my room whilst we were in the bar reading my
e-mails or at least checking out the drinking games and cocktails on
www.chillisauce.org.
I've also recently purchased a USB Bluetooth
adapter for my desktop so I'm now longer tied down to having my
desktop near the phone line or trailing cables across the floor. If
you don't need broadband but you want the freedom to use your
PC/Laptop where you want then this is the answer.
